Egypt, 1866. A terror is unleashed upon Cairo.
A predator that travels under a cloak of storms and lurks amongst the dunes.
It reigns like a king in an empire of sand and kills with human-like precision.
Its prey of choice: man.

Liam can't resist the allure of the ultimate kill.
Cat has a vendetta against all unnatural creatures.
They’re deadly.
They’re invincible.

From the author of Love in a Time of Monsters comes an electrifying prequel that invites you to live fast, die young, and shed a little blood.

reviewEmpire of Sand by Teresa Yea is the prequel to Love in a Time of Monsters and tells us the back story of Liam and Cat.

Cat is still reeling after the tragic loss of her father to one of the most dangerous monsters on earth and is training to become a monster hunter under the guidance of Liam and ‘the good doctor’. They are both young and flirty with one another but are fierce when it comes to monster hunting. However, Liam is pining over a particular blond haired boy back in London and just wants to get back to see him. But when a new monster appears, the hunt is much too alluring for him to resist. He’s a killer through and through. However, even though these two can be quite despicable at times, it’s very hard to dislike either of them.

The story moves at a fast pace and it’s an interesting read with lots of twists and blood thirsty moments. A lot of crass language but the characters wouldn’t have felt as real without it.

We find out why Cat and Liam have a hateful relationship in Love in a Time of Monsters and I’m surprised that this didn’t go on further. However, it’s left me wanting more.

Overall, a well written, fast paced read with a lot of action and suspense. If you love monsters and the people who hunt them, then you’d sure like this.

4 stars!
